Online Psychotherapy in Ontario for LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent Adults
About Carla Barbosa, Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW) — Providing Online Psychotherapy Across Ontario
My name is Carla Barbosa, and I provide online psychotherapy to clients across Ontario. I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Science in Health Studies from the University of Regina (Saskatchewan) and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto (Ontario).

As a psychotherapist, I help people develop tools to understand themselves better, manage emotions, and create healthier relationships with others and with themselves. My approach is compassionate, practical, and deeply respectful of your individual journey.
My Approach — Warm, Empathic, and Affirming
I bring warmth, empathy, and authenticity to every session. Having experienced my own mental health challenges, I connect with clients from a place of understanding and genuine care. My work is grounded in creating safe, affirming spaces for those feeling overwhelmed or going through life transitions.
I am a bilingual psychotherapist fluent in Portuguese and English, and I offer therapy that is LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent affirming. I have deep respect for my clients’ resilience and resourcefulness and am consistently inspired by their capacity for growth.
Like everyone else, I am a unique patchwork of my identities. I am a queer, cisgender woman who uses she/her pronouns. Born in Brazil, I grew up speaking Portuguese as my first language, in a middle-class family of divorced parents. I identify as a white-passing South American immigrant who, since 2009, has lived on the land colonially known as Canada. This diverse background allows me to bring cultural sensitivity and lived experience to my work with clients from different communities and identities.

In our sessions, I show up as someone with professional knowledge of mental health and human psychology, but I never lose sight of the fact that you are the expert of your own mind. I’m here to hear your story, hold space for your struggles, and witness your progress.

While I may share insights from evidence-based approaches and psychology, my real work is to be a compassionate witness to your growth, a privilege I never take for granted.

If you feel ready to embark on this journey of self-discovery and healing, I’m here to help.
Just pull up a chair and let’s talk.
